Experience

I am currently a Supplemental Instructor and writing tutor at a local community college. Working at a community college, I encounter various learning styles. I regularly deal with ESL students; returning adults and students with learning disabilities. As a Supplemental Instructor, I conduct weekly independent discussion sessions and lead in-class group work sessions. I also guest-lecture on introductory college-writing and research for various courses. Most recently in a Women’s History course, an English Composition course and an English Literature course. Prior to this position, I taught in Korea for a year. There, I taught multiple subjects at an international school. Specifically, English Literature, American Government, World History, and U.S. History. I have also worked as a K-12 English and history tutor at a private tutoring facility. As a tutor there, I encountered a multitude of students with varying skills, needs and learning abilities.

Hobbies

My passions and interests aside from teaching include dancing and writing. Currently, I am an active member of a local dance group called Cosmic Dance Crew and I regularly participate in CSUN's Kinesiology Department's end of the semester student and faculty dance showcase. I am also a member of Phi Alpha Theta, a history honor society. Since joining I have presented two papers: one at the National Biennial Convention in January 2014 called “Submission: The White Man’s Burden in American Slavery” and the second at the Annual Regional Southern California Conference in April 2015 called “Progress to Unrest: The Military’s Internal War against Racial Discrimination 1961-1973.”
